How the Scholarships Work

The Bill Maskill Scholarship and the Boys Club Scholarship are both administered through the Galesburg-Augusta Community Schools Foundation (GACS Foundation).

  • All funds contributed are collected, managed, and distributed by the Foundation.

  • Because the Foundation is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, every donation is tax-deductible.

  • The Foundation maintains complete records of all contributions, so donors can be confident their support directly benefits G-A students.

  • Donors may contribute by PayPal or check, with the Foundation ensuring proper accounting and the safe handling of every gift.

By working through the Foundation, we make sure your generosity is secure, transparent, and used exactly as intended — to help G-A students succeed, both in the classroom and beyond.

The two scholarships minimum goals are $10,000 each.  There is no set amount for contributions. Anyone can give what they're comfortable with.  Donations can be contributed as long as the scholarship's are viable.

The way it works after a scholarship has reached its minimum goal.  Once a year, there's an interest from these donations.  In theroy, if the interest is $500, a $500 scholarship would be given that year. If the scholarship money is alot, that means more interest more scholarship money.  The actual money available for each scholarship every year, is determined by how much the interest rate is.

Once a scholarship goal has been determined, there is a two year period to reach the goal.  If the scholarshp minimum goal has not been met after two years, what money has been contributed will be used as a scholarship until the money runs out.
